Bengaluru Property Owners to Face 100% Fine on Unpaid Tax from April 1: Key Details
With the new financial year approaching, property owners in Bengaluru must clear their pending property tax dues before March 31, 2025. Starting April 1, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will impose a 100% penalty on outstanding property tax, along with additional interest charges. This move is part of the city's effort to improve tax compliance and boost revenue collection.
The BBMP has set a property tax collection target of ₹5,210 crore for the 2024-25 financial year. As of now, over 88% of the target has been collected, with some zones nearing 100% compliance. However, to address outstanding dues, the municipal authority is enforcing stricter measures, including hefty fines and potential legal actions.
From April 1, property owners with pending tax dues will face:
100% penalty on the unpaid tax amount.
9% annual interest on dues from 2022-23 and earlier.
15% annual interest on dues from 2023-24 and 2024-25.
For example, if a property owner owes ₹10,000 from previous years, they will need to pay ₹20,000 plus interest.
BBMP officials have warned that defaulters may face property seizures, legal action, or auctions to recover unpaid taxes. With this strict enforcement, property owners are urged to clear their dues promptly to avoid financial penalties.
To avoid fines and penalties, property owners should:
Visit the BBMP Property Tax Portal.
Check their outstanding dues.
Make payments online or through designated BBMP tax centers before March 31.
With the deadline fast approaching, Bengaluru property owners must act quickly to clear their tax liabilities. Timely payment will help avoid financial strain while contributing to the city’s development and infrastructure.
Stay updated, pay on time, and avoid unnecessary penalties!
