In an effort to ensure the safety and structural integrity of residential buildings in Gurugram, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajay Kumar has called for an immediate resumption of the structural audit process. The call comes in the wake of multiple delays caused by builders and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) failing to pay their share of the audit fees. The DC has expressed concern about the risk posed to residents' safety, stressing that failure to comply with the audit requirements will result in penalties.
Structural audits are crucial in identifying vulnerabilities in residential buildings, which could lead to dangerous situations if left unchecked. With the rapid growth of residential complexes in Gurugram, the authorities launched a structural audit initiative in 2022. These audits are designed to assess the condition of buildings, identify any structural weaknesses, and recommend timely repairs to prevent disasters such as building collapses.
However, the audit process has faced significant setbacks due to delays in the payment of audit fees. Builders and RWAs have been slow to contribute their fair share, which has caused a backlog in the audits and delayed necessary repairs. This has raised alarm bells in the district administration, prompting the DC to take swift action.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar has expressed his dissatisfaction with the builders who have failed to deposit their portion of the audit fees. Describing this as "irresponsible" behavior, Kumar emphasized that such delays jeopardize the safety of residents and must be addressed immediately.
